The restoration of a bronze statue, monument or sculpture is only advised in the most extreme conditions, particularly when the original patina has deteriorated entirely and the statue has become disfigured. In these cases, the disfiguring corrosion must be removed or thinned or using techniques such as TORC (a wet/air abrasion system). Re-patination is then carried out in the traditional manner just as it would have been undertaken in the foundry when the statue was first made. Finally a wax coating is applied with soft burnishing brushes and the statue is buffed between applications of protective Micro-Crystalline Wax. We specialise in undertaking even the most difficult repairs and treatments in situ, this benefits the client above all by minimising costs incurred in lifting and transporting large objects. However, we also have a studio giving the clients a choice if they wish to have works undertaken while redesign/landscaping is being carried out. If parts of a statue need to be re-made or replaced, we can make and cast replicas identical to the original articles in our studio or foundry. |
